Prof. Dr.N.Radhakrishnan was born in 1945 in Kerala, India, into a family of traditional Ayurvedic physicians. His journey from aspiring to become an engineer to becoming a world-renowned surgeon is a testament to his resilience and passion for medicine.
He served over 55 years in the medical field, including 43 years at St. Thomas Hospital, transforming it into a 500-bedded multispecialty NABH-accredited hospital. His pioneering work in treating Chronic Venous Diseases has set new standards in the medical community.Performed over 50,000 minimally invasive procedures for venous diseases.
He currently serves as the Medical Director at the St. Thomas Institute of Research on Venous Disease since 2010, collaborating with the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology for genetic studies and Mahatma Gandhi University for bio-nanotechnology research. Since 2013, he has also been a Medical Administrator and Senior Consultant Vascular Surgeon at St. Thomas Hospital, managed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Changanassery, where he has been practicing since 1980. Additionally, he holds the position of Chairman of the Ethical Committee for National Homeopathy Research in Mental Health under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, since 2017, and was appointed Chairman of the Prof. Dr. N.Radhakrishnan International Centre for Medical Innovation at Mahatma Gandhi University in 2023. His current focus includes a joint research initiative on chronic nonhealing ulcers using bio-nanotechnology, in collaboration with Prof. (Dr.) Sabu Thomas, while continuing his molecular studies on varicose veins with the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology to prevent the disease in future generations. He balances his research endeavors with an active surgical practice.
Dr. Radhakrishnan's foundation offers scholarships for post-doctoral fellows in advanced venous disease research. His vision includes preventing venous diseases in future generations through genetic corrections and innovative treatments.He is actively involved in philanthropic activities, supporting rehabilitation centers and underprivileged communities, showcasing his commitment to societal well-being. Done about 40,000 minimally invasive procedures for Varicose Veins (Modified Microfoam Sclerotherapy) which is a world record. Brought out “Newer Outlooks & Trends in the Etiopathogenesis & Management of Varicose Veins of the Lower Limbs”.
